Police: Homeless man hit Delray Beach restaurant cook with chair

p dir=”ltr”>A homeless man who has been arrested more than 50 times in Palm Beach County, struck a cook with a chair outside a Delray Beach restaurant Tuesday evening, according to a Delray Beach police report.

p dir=”ltr”>Dempsey John Francois, 42, swung a chair at the cook at Excell Restaurant, on Congress Avenue near Linton Boulevard, hitting him in the shoulder, an arrest report states.

p dir=”ltr”>A family inside the restaurant at the time told police the attack was unprovoked, and Francois fled through the parking lot.

p dir=”ltr”>Francois, known in the area as "Obama," faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to police. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail on $10,000 bail.

p dir=”ltr”>Francois has been arrested 51 times in Palm Beach County, most which were on misdemeanor charges of trespassing or disorderly conduct, according to jail records.

p dir=”ltr”>He was convicted of only one felony, aggravated stalking, in 2006 for which he served 128 days in county jail, according to court records.
